Si Jehová se agradare de nosotros, él nos llevará a esta tierra, y nos la entregará; tierra que fluye leche y miel. – Números 14:8

Resumen: El regreso de los espías de Canaan muestra la fe de Josué y Caleb y explica porque los hijos de Israel vagaron cuarenta días en el yermo. Dios había dado una misión para desparramar las buenas noticias en cada tierra.

Miren este vaso de agua. ¿Está lleno hasta la mitad? ¿O está todo lleno? Supongo que tu repuesta depende de tu punto de vista. Si tu intentas pensar la situación, podrías ser negativo y decir hasta la mitad de agua. Si intentas ser positivo y pensar la mejor situación, podrías decir el vaso está a medio llenar y podrías llenarlo más. Nuestras opiniones tienden a ser ambas positivas o negativas dependiendo de como veamos las circunstancias.

Hoy quiero contarte la historia de como Dios envió espías a Canaan y qué les sucedió. Primero Dios liberó a los hijos de Israel de la esclavitud en Egipto y milagrosamente dividió El Mar Rojo así podrían escapar del ejercito egipcio. Dios dio a Moisés los Diez mandamientos en el Monte de Sinaí. Por ultimo estaban listos para entrar a la Tierra Prometida Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob: la tierra de Canaan. Cuando se estaban acercando, Dios le dijo a Moisés que enviara doce espías (uno de cada tribu) a la tierra y le diera un informe de lo que habían encontrado. Buscaron en Canaan por 40 días. Vieron una tierra que fluía con leche y miel. Eso significa que tenía un montón de alimento, agua y rico suelo que sería bueno para crecer cosechas y criar animales. También vieron diferentes tribus de gente que vivía allí, incluso algunos gigantes.

Diez espías dieron un informe maligno y tuvieron miedo de los grandes hombres en la tierra, y se sintieron como saltamontes comparados con los gigantes (Números 13:32-33). Josué y Caleb estaban listos para seguir las ordenes de Jesús de entrar en la tierra, confiando en que Jesús los protegería. Estaban llenos de fe y coraje. Todos los doce espías vieron las mismas cosas, pero Josué y Caleb estaban atentos a la presencia de Dios con ellos. Eran confidentes que Dios los conduciría a la victoria sobre sus enemigos.

Porque la mayoría de la gente no estaba dispuesta a seguir el plan de Dios, Dios estaba triste y los castigó. Dios le dijo a Moisés que ninguno de los hombres de más de 20 años (excepto Josué y Caleb*) entraría a la Tierra Prometida. Dios los castigó retrasando su entrada a Canaan por 40 años. Aquel fue un año de vagancia en el yermo por cada día que los espías se habían pasado buscando la tierra (Números 14:34). Después de 40 años toda la gente desobediente había muerto y solamente sus hijos (que ya habían crecido) podían entrar a Canaan bajo el liderazgo de Josué. Josué y Caleb fueron recompensados porque siguieron enteramente la llamada de Dios. (Josué 14:8).

Aunque no somos espías, Dios nos envía en una misión para decir la buena noticia de Jesucristo en el mundo (Mateo 28:19-20). Como buscamos la tierra podemos ver muchos enemigos de la cruz, pero no deberíamos tener miedo. Jesús dijo En este mundo afrontarán aflicciones, pero ¡anímense! Yo he vencido al mundo. (Juan 16:33) Porque sabemos que Dios está conduciéndonos, podemos ser confidentes en contarles a otros acerca de Jesús.

*¡Esto significa que solamente dos de alrededor 600,000 viviendo luego sobrevivieron al entrar a Canaan!
