Resumen: Jesús demuestra que puede multiplicar nuestros recursos cuando se los ofrecemos a él con fe.

¡Miren lo que he traído hoy! ¿Saben lo que es ésto? (Un paquete de pan). Sí, es un paquete de pan. Ha sido rebanado y está listo para hacer emparedados. Cuando se hace el pan, sale en una sola pieza. Casi siempre tiene que cortarse en pedazos para poderse utilizar. Hoy deseo contarles una historia del Evangelio de Mateo en un momento en el cual Jesús alimentó a más de 5,000 personas con solo cinco panes y dos peces.

Jesús había pasado un día difícil. Estaba bastante molesto cuando sus amigos vinieron a decirle que Juan el Bautista había muerto por mandato del rey Herodes. Jesús necesitaba estar solo por un rato así que se fue a un lugar apartado, al desierto. El problema que Jesús tenía era que su popularidad era grande ya que era conocido como el gran sanador. Así que la gente lo seguía doquiera iba. Era difícil para él lograr estar solo.

Estaba oscureciendo, así que sus discípulos vinieron a él y le pidieron que enviara a la gente a sus hogares pues ellos no tenían alimentos que darles. Entonces Jesús retó a sus discípulos. Les dijo: “Ellos no tienen que irse, dénles de comer ustedes”. Los discípulos probablemente se rieron internamente. Ellos le contestaron a Jesús que ellos solo tenían un poco para comer ellos, cinco panes y dos peces.

A veces Jesús nos dice cosas imposibles para que dependamos de él para que nos ayude. (Esto pasó en la misma noche en que Pedro caminó sobre las aguas para encontrarse con Jesús, el cual venía hacia la barca que se encontraba en el mar. Pedro no podía caminar sobre las aguas a menos que fijara sus ojos con fe en Jesús).

¿Qué pasó después? ¿Les dijo Jesús que fueran a la tienda a compraran 1,000 libras de pan y que trajeran todo el pescado que encontraran en la tienda? No, él les dijo que trajeran lo que tenían para pedirle a Dios que lo bendijera. Jesús siempre pedía la bendición de Dios antes de comer. ¿La pides tú? Hay algo que necesitamos entender sobre la bendición que pedimos. No le estamos pidiendo a Dos que saque una varita mágica y bendiga los alimentos. Los judíos tienen la costumbre de decir una oración cada vez que parten el pan que es igual para todos, ” Bendito eres tú, oh Señor nuestro Dios, Rey del universo, que das pan desde la tierra”. Jesús, el Pan de Vida, fue el que salió de la tumba en la mañana de resurrección. Cuando le damos gracias a Dios por los alimentos, recordamos que él provee la vida misma.

Si los discípulos hubieran tratado de alimentar a la gente sin la ayuda de Jesús, hubieran podido tener un poco de alimentos ellos solamente. Pero al darle lo que tenían a Jesús y por pedirle ayuda, Jesús tomó lo que le dieron con fe y lo multiplicó muchas veces. Fue un milagro en gran escala. Alimentó a cinco mil hombres además de las mujeres y niños. De hecho, sobraron doce canastas llenas de alimentos.
