Un día dos amigos estaban caminando por el camino a Emaús. Algo terrible sucedió tres días antes. Jesús había sido colgado en la cruz y crucificado. Ellos estaban tristes y enojados por esto. Mientras estaban hablando acerca de lo que pasó Jesús mismo se acercó, y caminaba con ellos. Ellos no sabían que era Jesús. Ellos suponían que era alguien caminando a lo largo del camino. Jesús les preguntó porque estaban tan tristes.

Uno de los dos hombres, Cleopas, explicó que estaban seguros de que Jesús era una persona elegida por Dios para salvar a los hijos de Israel. Él le contó que Jesús había sido crucificado y como algunas mujeres habían ido a la tumba esa mañana pero su cuerpo no estaba allí. Las mujeres habían visto ángeles que decían que Jesús estaba vivo.

Luego Jesús comenzó a explicarles todo a través de las escrituras de Moisés y los profetas que todas estas cosas fueron escritas acerca de Dios antes que sucedieran. Como ellos escuchaban que sus corazones estaban felices de escuchar la buena noticia de que Jesús sufrió para salvar a su gente. El mismo autor de la Biblia les estaba explicando las escrituras y esto los puso contentos. Pero recuerda que ellos todavía no se dieron cuenta que era Jesús. Ellos querían pasar más tiempo con este extraño pero el actuó como si tuviese que continuar su viaje.

Ellos le suplicaron que se quedara a cenar. Cuando se sentó a comer él tomó el pan, lo bendijo, y lo partió, y se los dio. Y sus ojos estaban abiertos, y lo conocieron, y desapareció de su vista. ¡Esta era la pascua y el Señor Jesús resucitado desapareció justo en frente de ellos!

Algunas veces cosas malas le suceden a la gente buena. A Jesús lo habían matado y era difícil de explicar por qué Dios permitiría que suceda tal cosa. Podríamos perder a un amigo querido en un accidente de auto. Nuestro padre podría perder su trabajo. Podríamos tener una mascota que amemos mucho que muera. Un tornado, un huracán, una inundación podrían dañar o destruir nuestro hogar. No entendemos cual es el propósito de Dios para nosotros cuando suceden esas situaciones, pero Dios está con rostros incuso en los tiempos tristes cuando nuestros corazones se están rompiendo. Jesús caminó justo al lado de los dos hombres en el camino de Emaús. Jesús está con nosotros todo el tiempo no importa lo que suceda. Podemos estar felices por eso!
