Resumo: A história das moedas da viúva nos ensina a fazermos oferendas a Deus de forma humilde, que não seja notada pelos outros.

Vejam o que estou segurando na minha mão. [duas moedas de cinco centavos] Isso é muito dinheiro? Não. Você não pode comprar muita coisa com dez centavos. Hoje quero contar a vocês sobre doações para a igreja. Vocês costumam dar dinheiro para a igreja?

Quando chega a hora de dar uma oferenda para igreja, um dos fiéis vem pelo corredor com uma cestinha onde colocamos nosso dinheiro. Aquele dinheiro é usado para ajudar a contar aos outros sobre Jesus. Na época de Jesus eles não coletavam dinheiro durante a celebração da missa como fazemos hoje em dia. Havia um cofre próximo ao Templo de Jerusalém. Pense nele como um banco onde o dinheiro fica guardado. Quando alguém dava dinheiro ao templo eles andavam até o tesouro e colocavam o dinheiro em uma grande caixa ou cesta. Pense nisso como o caixa eletrônico de Deus.

Às vezes uma pessoa muito rica resolvia se mostrar. Quando estava prestes a colocar uma grande quantia de dinheiro no tesouro, ele podia fazer alguém tocar uma trombeta para atrair a atenção das pessoas. Hoje em dia isso seria como alguém doar uma grande quantia e publicar a foto dele ou dela no jornal local.

(Leia Mateus 6:2,3] Jesus disse que quando dermos dinheiro para a igreja devemos fazê-lo em silêncio e com humildade. Nós não precisamos atrair atenção porque Deus sabe o quando nós damos. Deus sabe de tudo. Deus sabe se a quantia que oferecemos é dada de bom grado e se é a quantia que devemos oferecer.

(Leia Marcos 12:41-44] Jesus disse a seus discípulos que mesmo que a pobre viúva tenha dado apenas duas moedas (equivalente a mais ou menos dez centavos no Brasil), ela tinha sacrificado mais do que aqueles que colocaram muito dinheiro. Aquelas duas moedas eram tudo o que ela tinha. Ela deu tudo para Deus.

Sempre que tivermos algo importante para Deus, devemos dar tudo de nós e fazer o melhor que pudermos. Quando dermos dinheiro, que seja porque amamos Deus e queremos que os outros escutem as boas novas sobre Jesus.
